Reasons Why The Ancient Igala People Choose Attah Instead of Pharaoh as a Supreme Traditional Title
Pharaoh was initially not a traditional title. It means Great House. It was like a palace where the rulers stay. Later, the ancient Egyptian adopted the name of the house as the traditional title. But Aat/Attah also means father or the Great One in ancient Egypt. A traditional ruler is better addressed as the great one than a great house, thus, Igala when prepared to continue the kingship rulership of their root, Egypt in their settlement in Nigeria, they took “The Great one same as father or elder” which is Attah instead of “The great House”, which is Pharaoh. You don get am? The Great one is better than the Greater house for a king’s title.
The Igala kingdom is ruled by an “Attah”. HRM Idakwo Micheal Ameh became the twenty-second Attah following the death of his predecessor Attah Alhaji Aliyu Obaje in 2012. The word Attah means father and the full title of the ruler is “Attah Igala”, meaning the father of Igala.
