Success According to 2Face Idibia (@2faceidibia)

Early life of 2Face

He was born in Jos, Plateau State in Nigeria and named Innocent Ujah Idibia, from the Idoma ethnic group in the south of Benue State. His childhood just like that of many African children did not consist of much drama; nothing could have prepared him for the fame that he has become exposed to today. He attended school in Nigeria going to Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School in Makurdi after which he attended the Institute of Management and Technology, (IMT) in Enugu where he took Diploma in business administration and management but did not graduate from college. At the college he was known for his many performances both in organized school shows and parties and in regional schools shows.

Music Career

Being a member of the now disbanded R&B and hip hop group, Plantashun Boyz, he has always been active in music. It was at the college however that he really got interested in music and even decided to try it out, it is where he composed his first songs and also where he started singing jingles at the GB Fan Club courtesy of the Enugu State Broadcasting Services. That was way back in the year 1996. He later, he moved to Lagos where he performed with Black Face, a fellow rapper with whom he formed the singing group, Plantashun Boyz. This group was however not to stick together for long and soon after its formation it broke each member going their separate ways. Before the break however they had a number of achievements including releasing an album in 2007 titled Plan B.

The name 2Face was adopted in 1996 reason being, as he says, he was trying to set apart his business life from his personal life. 2Face has lived to see some of his songs played internally and that is not a small occurrence especially since he is an African artist. In the year 2006, one of his songs, African Queen, a song that is well known all over Africa, was used in the sound track for the movie Phat Girlz. 2Face has also produced a number of albums including, a promotional album produced in the year 2008 when he released his single ‘Enter the Place’. His success, talent and determination saw his album, Unstoppable, being the first Nigerian album to be correctly priced globally. The international edition of this album was released in 2010, an album that won him two awards at the 2010 Sound City Music Video Awards. Other albums produced by 2Face include Face 2Face produced in 2004, Grass to Grace produced in 2006, and Away and Beyond produced recently, in the year 2012.

2Face has had many achievements in his music career apart from the ones already named and attributed to the album Unstoppable. He won the Channel O Music Video Awards for the Best African Western Award and the MTV Africa Music Awards for Best Male and Artist of the year. 2Face left the Kennis Music, a record label and set up his own label, Hypertek Entertainment. This was a great leap in his road to success.

He is lucky to be one of the eight African artists to be part of the Sony All African One8 Project and has even recorded a single with R. Kelly and Prince Lee, ‘Hands Across the World’. We cannot forget to mention that 2Face if the first non- Liberian to become a member of an honorary member of the Liberian Music Society due to his exceptional involvement to African Music. Among the many awards that have been won by this exceptional musician includes, Best Male Vocalist 2004 A.M.E.N Awards, Song of the Year 2004 A.M.E.N Awards, Best New Act Male 2004 A.M.E.N Awards, Excellence Recognition Awards Musician of The Year 2006 The Future Awards, Africa Break Through Artist of the Year 2006 Nigeria Entertainment Awards New York, Best Album of the Year 2007 Nigeria Entertainment Awards New York, Best African Act 2007 MOBO Award, among many others.

In the spirit of giving back to society and of creating more jobs in his home country, 2Face started and NGO known as the Idibia Reach-Out Foundation, whose main aim is the serve human kind. He has been appointed the ambassador of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, and also been given the International Youth Ambassador for Peace Summit award.  All these awards and many others that he has gotten in his country are in recognition of the good work that he has constantly done in service to the country.
