The Nigerian men’s basketball team upset the United States 90-87 in a pre-Olympic exhibition game in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Nigeria never trailed in the fourth quarter, nine years after loosing by 83 points to the United States at the 2012 Olympics. The Nigerian team’s stars were point guard Gabe Vincent, Caleb Agada, and forward Precious Achiuwa.
In the contest, Nigeria made 22 three-point attempts. It was the country’s first victory over the world’s top-ranked nation.
“It’s different when you’re playing for a country. Right now we’re representing the continent. It means the world to us and I hope we showed it here tonight. It’s just all the work we put in,” Gabe Vincent said.
“It’s no mistake what happened here tonight. We knew what it was. We’ve all seen them play at the highest level and make huge shots. We knew what came with that and we just had to make plays,” Vincent added.
