Following his engagement in the Nigerian civil war without receiving treatment, the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which had an impact on her for many years.
This was announced by Mrs. Aisha yesterday at the AFPTSDC (Armed Forces Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Centre) groundbreaking event, which was organized by the DEPOWA (Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association), which is led by Mrs. Lucky Irabor.
This led to the start of my offense in his home at the age of 19, and after running for office in 2003 and failing, again in 2007, and again in 2011, all without receiving any form of therapy, I decided to become a physiotherapist, according to Mrs. Buhari.
“Despite its negative effects, it is a reality that military personnel and their families must contend with. Being a wellness professional and the wife of a serving or former soldier, I am aware of the difficulties PTSD poses for military families as well as the general public.
“My husband was deposed in a coup d’état after serving the Nigerian Army for 27 years. He fought in the civil war for 30 months without receiving rehabilitation, ruled Nigeria for 20 months, and spent 40 months in prison without being told what his crime was, the first lady pointed out.
Every candidate who ran for office and lost three times experienced a severe setback, but those who ran in yesterday’s straightforward primary election are still suffering from the effects of the trauma. I tried to comfort them and talk to them, but some of them turned off their phones until today simply because of the primary election.
“You can picture myself at 19 dealing with someone who went to war, had a coup d’état, lost multiple elections, and then, in 2015, made it to the Villa. Additionally, it is problematic for a woman to tell them that something is right or bad in Nigeria and Africa.
