For Nigerians with the National Identification Number, NIN, the Federal Government has extended the deadline for connecting it with their SIM cards.
In December 2020, the federal government gave Nigerians with NINs until January 19 to link their Sim cards to bind them or risk blocking their telephone lines.
Following the expiry of the deadline on Tuesday 19 January, the deadline has now been prolonged by the Federal Government until 9 February.
In a press release issued today, Wednesday 20 January, the mobile network operators (MNOs) reported that the Federal Government had given a further extension of the deadline to 9 February to enable subscribers to do so by still synchronizing their SIMs with their NINs.
We have obtained formal confirmation from the NCC that President Muhammadu Buhari has graciously agreed to extend the deadline from 19 January to 9 February 2021 for NIN subscribers to connect them to their SIM registration details.
We encourage all telecom subscribers who have a NIN to connect it to their SIM cards via accessible channels as soon as possible in order to ensure that we utilize the extension time judiciously. Many that are not yet enrolled are urged to visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of enrollment centers near to them.
