Cristiano Ronaldo ‘has no intention of retiring from international football’

As he is anticipated to play for Portugal through at least Euro 2024, Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have no plans to stop playing for the national team.

On Saturday, Ronaldo’s team was ousted from the World Cup at the quarterfinal stage after falling to Morocco 1-0. The 37-year-old was overcome with emotion as he walked down the tunnel following the game.

According to CM Journal, he intends to keep competing for his nation and has already set his sights on the upcoming international competition, the Euro 2024 in Germany.

For Portugal’s final two games in Qatar, Ronaldo was left out of the starting lineup, but the 39-year-old still believes he can lead the squad as captain.

The 37-year-old was benched by Portugal manager Fernando Santos during the World Cup when he became irate after being replaced against South Korea in their group match.

Santos omitted him from both the World Cup match against Morocco and the last-16 match against Switzerland, which they won 6-1 courtesy to a hat-trick from Ronaldo’s replacement Goncalo Ramos.

Santos told reporters after the game against Morocco that he had “no regrets” for benching Ronaldo: “No regrets. This team, in my opinion, performed admirably against Switzerland. Cristiano is a fantastic athlete. When we felt it was necessary, he came on.
