Assault on police officer:’ IGP orders ‘immediate arrest’ of Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician who was seen on camera beating a police officer in uniform, has been placed under custody, according to Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.

The event happened in Lagos, according to a statement released on Saturday by the police spokeswoman, Muyiwa Adejobi.

The late Afrobeat superstar Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s youngest kid is Mr. Kuti.

The singer was seen punching an officer in a video that was posted online. The cop didn’t take offence in the little video, though.

The statement reads, “The IGP has also ordered a swift and thorough investigation into the immediate and remote cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.”

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt or disrespect for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such heinous crimes will unquestionably be brought to justice,” the statement reads.

On his Instagram account, Mr. Kuti responded late on Saturday night and claimed he was the incident’s victim.

He claimed the policeman attempted to kill him and his family.

He attempted to kill my family and I.
I have the evidence, but I don’t chase power,” he wrote in his post.

“He apologised, and I agreed not to file a complaint. Make the poor man not lose his job by not minding your business.
